Honoring Native American Heritage Month

Honoring Native American Heritage Month

November 06, 2023

This November we celebrate and honor Native American Heritage Month. First authored by Jerry C. Elliot-High Eagle in 1976, the event was announced by President Ronald Reagan in 1986, then expanded from a week to the full month of November by President George H. W. Bush in 1990.

Native American Heritage Month is an incredible opportunity to recognize and affirm Indigenous cultures in America and their contributions to this nation. Keep an eye out for local and national film festivals, books, short story anthologies, art exhibitions, public television specials, and museum events near you.

Wishing you a happy Native American Heritage Month.
