Grandparents Day

Grandparents Day

September 10, 2023

This affirmation of grandparents – the role they play, the guidance they give – started with the idea of Marian Lucille Herndon McQuade, a West Virginia advocate for seniors. (She had 43 grandchildren of her own.) She promoted the idea around Washington D.C. for nearly a decade – and then in 1979, President Jimmy Carter proclaimed the first Sunday after Labor Day each year as National Grandparents Day.

So celebrate the bond between grandparents and grandchildren, and salute the good work that grandparents do, every day.
