Shouldn’t there be a special day honoring grandparents? As it turns out, there is.
Grandparents Day was designated a holiday by presidential proclamation in 1979, and it is celebrated on the first Sunday after Labor Day each year. So younger and older Americans can honor the grandparents who provide love, guidance, and wisdom to their grandchildren – and, by extension, to their communities.
Grandparents Day provides an occasion for grandparents, grandchildren, and extended families to gather, have fun, and do something special. I hope you and your loved ones enjoy this celebration.
